Resprouting alders on Blue River, Oklahoma
Some long-lived plants persist by repeatedly resprouting after disturbances. A flood killed an alder tree (Alnus maritima ssp. oklahomensis, Betulaceae), but it grew back (Blue River, Johnston Co., Oklahoma). Photograph by Stanley A. Rice.
